We love educators, and engage with teachers at all levels from public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. We welcome inquiries from everyone from home schooling parents to college professors, and offer field trips, curriculum support you know that exploring art helps all kinds of learning, exhibition learning guides, and college assignments.

Student Programs & Exhibitions

Young Artists of Kalamazoo County Exhibition Two galleries are filled floor to ceiling with colorful, inspiring creativity in artwork by students in K-8th grades selected by their teachers.

High School Area Show Our annual juried exhibition offers scholarships and cash awards for rising high school artists from several counties.

High School Portfolio Day Admissions counselors from college art programs throughout the Midwest visit each October to meet with high school artists to review their work and offer guidance.

Youth Art Classes The Kirk Newman Art School offers Saturday youth classes beginning in April, June, September and January. Spring break and summer art camps are also available.

Museum Tours

Changing exhibitions and collection galleries offer opportunities for closer looking on guided tours led by highly trained volunteer docents. We welcome groups of 10 or more by appointment. Special tours are available for student groups. All ages are welcome. The KIA is an accessible facility, and wheelchairs are available upon request.

Fine Art Library

The Mary and Edwin Meader Fine Art Library is a well-stocked destination for bibliophiles, art enthusiasts, and casual readers. It offers art-related literature, non-fiction, and periodicals that cover a broad range of topics, from architecture and antiques to ceramics and photography. All are invited to our monthly free book discussions. Members of the KIA enjoy borrowing privileges.
