This annual juried exhibition welcomed more than 300 entries by artists 18 years or younger, in grades 9-12, from Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties.
Juror for the show was artist Ginger Owen, Professor of Art at Western Michigan University’s Gwen Frostic School of Art. She chose 84 works to exhibit, by 75 artists, along with the juror’s awards and honorable mentions. Representatives from each art school selected their respective scholarship winners.
More than $300,000 in prizes and scholarships were awarded.
For the third year, the KIA partnered with Congressman Fred Upton to select the 6th District winner of the Congressional Art Competition. Madeline Peterson, 16, of Portage Northern High School, will see her work hang in the U.S. Capitol, and enjoy a trip to Washington, D.C., for a reception. Last year’s winner was Henderson Castle, by Grady Hively.
