The vision statement of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) is clear. “We believe the visual arts are for everyone. They inspire, fulfill and transform.” To fully achieve this vision, the KIA embraces the diversity that contributes to a healthy environment within our institution and also in the community which we serve. Therefore, diversity will be championed by our board of directors, staff, faculty, volunteers, and students.
We furthermore acknowledge that a healthy working and learning environment includes individuals of diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives. Such inclusion recognizes the value and unique nature of each individual.
The KIA will, therefore:
- value, respect, and embrace the diversity of our community;
- protect the dignity and self-respect of all individuals;
- seek community leaders who bring diversity and varying points of view to the board of directors;
- not tolerate racism
