The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is delighted to once again bring back these beloved community traditions. This year, Young Artists of Kalamazoo County will be held jointly with the High School Area Show. Young Artists brings together local K-8 students and the High School Area Show welcomes submissions from all high school students residing in Allegan, Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties. Visitors of all ages have enjoyed these shows for over 40 years, honoring the courage, creativity, and perseverance of young artists.
Director’s Merit Award
Congressional Art Competition
The annual Congressional Art Competition celebrates the artistic achievements of the nation’s high school students. The winning artwork will hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. The tunnel is the most highly traveled access point between the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Capitol. Every day, Members of Congress, distinguished visitors, and tens of thousands of tourists – from the United States and abroad – walk through the tunnel and admire the artwork. The winning artist from each district is invited to attend the awards ceremony with one parent or guardian to view their artwork in the Capitol Building.
